Kid's Mattress FAQs  

We’ve already published a guide to kids’ mattresses, giving information about the amount of sleep a child needs, how levels of firmness can affect them, and appropriate dimensions to look for. However, if you’re after some more tips and tricks, here are a few FAQs that our customers ask when this important decision comes around:

1. Is memory foam suitable for children's mattresses?

We do not recommend memory foam products for children. We normally associate memory foam with ideas of revolutionary comfort for adult sleepers. Toddlers and young children don’t adapt well to memory foam material; they need extra support as they inch ever taller, which means the perfect mattress should be a little more rigid and temperature regulating than memory foam. Memoflex and High-Density Reflex Foam, Coil and Pocket Sprung designs are a (better) choice, soft to the touch, breathable as well as being firm and durable. 2. Do I need a mattress protector?

Absolutely! Mattress protectors offer various benefits for kids' mattresses, especially for toddlers prone to bed-wetting, spills, or allergies. They shield against spills, stains and accidents, preserving the mattress lifespan. Additionally, protectors create a barrier against allergens, dust mites and bacteria, promoting a cleaner sleep environment. Easily removable and washable, some even provide an extra layer of softness or cooling properties. Ultimately, protectors have evolved beyond basic protection, becoming an essential bedding item.

3. What should come first – bed or mattress?

Ideally, start with the mattress when shopping for a new kid's bed. The mattress provides crucial support and comfort, and finding the right one ensures your child sleeps well. Once you've chosen the mattress, select a bed frame that complements its size and features. Since all bed types require a solid foundation for sleep, you need to ensure your child’s bed and mattress marry in perfect harmony.
